Lady Bird Lake is a true "treasure" right in the middle of Austin! The lake, really a reservoir created in 1960 on the Colorado River in Downtown Austin for flood control, is operated by the Lower Colorado River Authority.

Lady Bird Lake, renamed in 2007 to honor the former First Lady, is a recreational playscape. Bounded by hotels, apartments and Auditorium Shores park, Austin's Hike and Bike Trail circles its shores. Boaters and fishermen join joggers, runners, bikers and hikers enjoying its beauty throughout the day.
