The Center was founded in 1982 by Lady Bird Johnson, our former first lady, and actress Helen Hayes to protect and preserve North America's native plants and natural landscapes. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center exists to introduce people to the beauty and diversity of wildflowers and other native plants. I visited the Center during Wildflower Days in April, 2012.
